The 100" x 100" in Practice
The commission at the ceiling of what is possible: buyers for whom this is the defining piece of the house.
There is a version of this bed available from manufacturers who will make anything to any size. What they cannot do is hand-nest a calico pocket spring honeycomb or side-stitch a border by hand at 100" x 100", and those two operations are the entire difference between a bed that holds its shape for decades and one that does not.
Size, Surface and Comparison
At 100" x 100" this bed presents 69.4 square feet of sleeping surface. Set against the 42.2 square feet of a standard 76" × 80" King, that is 64 per cent more area, 24 inches wider and 20 inches longer.
| Size | Dimensions | Surface | vs. King |
|---|---|---|---|
| Twin | 38" × 75" | 19.8 sq ft | -53% |
| Twin XL | 38" × 80" | 21.1 sq ft | -50% |
| Full | 54" × 75" | 28.1 sq ft | -33% |
| Queen | 60" × 80" | 33.3 sq ft | -21% |
| California King | 72" × 84" | 42 sq ft | -1% |
| King | 76" × 80" | 42.2 sq ft | 0% |
| Grand Emperor Maximum (this size) | 100" × 100" | 69.4 sq ft | +64% |
The nearest production size is the King at 76" x 80". This specification exceeds it, and the gap is precisely why the bed has to be commissioned. There is no manufactured mattress that closes it, at any price.
Will It Fit? Room Dimensions and Clearance
Room dimensions govern this choice. A 100" x 100" needs 13'4" x 11'4" at minimum, 151 square feet or so, which accounts for 30-inch walkways on three sides and the depth the headboard takes from the wall.
The comfortable dimension is 14'4" x 12'4". That is not a luxury allowance; it is the point at which two people can pass each other at the foot of the bed without turning sideways.
Measure before you specify
Mark the 100-inch by 100-inch footprint on the bedroom floor with painter's tape before committing. Live with the outline for a few days. Almost every client who does this adjusts their specification, usually up in width and down in length, which is the correction most people need and few anticipate.
Delivery, Access & the Staircase Problem
100 inches is beyond what most homes will take by the obvious path. We survey before confirming the order, and where the stairs defeat it, which happens. The answer is usually a window entry or a crane. Both are workable; neither is improvised on the day.
The divan base is built in 3 sections, which resolves the base half of the access question. The mattress is the component that cannot be divided: a Vispring spring unit is a single hand-nested honeycomb with a hand-stitched border. It arrives whole or it does not arrive.
- Every doorway from the street to the bedroom, including the front door, which is more often the constraint than people expect.
- Stairwell diagonals; the critical figure at any change of direction, and the usual reason a delivery fails.
- Ceiling and soffit heights; 100 inches of rigid mattress needs somewhere to go when tilted.
- Lift car depth: the door width and the internal depth are different numbers; both matter.
- Contingency access. Window or balcony entry, which we can arrange where the interior route will not serve.
The Linen Question
No mass-market bedding is cut to 100" x 100". Fitted sheets, flat sheets and protectors are made to order, and a duvet sized for the nearest standard bed will sit short once mattress depth is accounted for. We supply a written linen specification with every bespoke order so any competent linen house can cut to your exact dimensions.
One point specific to this width: at 100 inches, a duvet that drapes correctly should measure roughly 132 to 144 inches across, allowing a proper fall on both sides over a mattress of Vispring depth. A cover cut to the mattress width alone sits on the bed, not over it, and the difference is immediately visible.
The Look of a 100" x 100"
This is a construction project as much as a purchase. The base ships in multiple sections, the delivery route must be surveyed in advance, and every piece of bedding is made to order. Expect an extended lead time and plan the room, the access and the linens together as a single brief.
A true square has no long axis, which changes how the bed is read. It centres naturally on any wall, never looks accidentally placed, and is the most forgiving proportion to photograph. It is also the least forgiving of asymmetry. Matched nightstands and centred lighting are effectively compulsory.
A note on the 100" x 100"
The maximum in both directions simultaneously, and the end of the Vispring range. Everything about this order is exceptional: the base ships in multiple sections, the route is surveyed in advance, every linen is commissioned, and the lead time reflects a bed built entirely from scratch. Treat it as a commission, not a purchase.
At 100 inches wide this bed exceeds every standard headboard on the market, so the headboard becomes a bespoke item commissioned alongside the mattress. Vispring upholsters headboards in the same fabric ranges as the divan, and at this width we would generally advise a piece that runs wider than the mattress instead of flush to it, a headboard cut exactly to 100 inches tends to read as undersized once the bed is dressed.
Hand-Building to 100" x 100"
A built-to-order size is not a variation on a standard product. It is the standard process applied to your numbers. For a 100" x 100" that means a craftsperson pocketing each spring in calico and tying the honeycomb by hand to a 100 by 100 footprint. Density is fixed, so the count lands near 164 per cent of a King's.
Exact pocket spring counts by collection to be confirmed, Vispring custom specification sheet
Above the springs sit the natural fillings, teased apart by hand and laid across all 69.4 square feet before being tufted through. Then the border is side-stitched; stitches drawn by hand through the mattress edge to hold the sidewall vertical. On a bed this size that edge work is what keeps the perimeter as usable as the middle.

Questions We Are Asked Most
Every Vispring is built to order by hand in Plymouth, England, and a built-to-order dimension is made from scratch and not cut down from stock. Lead time to be confirmed, Vispring custom schedule Your Denver specialist will confirm the current schedule when the specification is finalised.
Yes. Dual tension builds the spring unit with a different gauge on each side of the centre line, so each sleeper gets their own support without a visible join in the sleeping surface. At 100 inches wide there is ample room for each side to behave independently.
The divan is built in 3 sections and pushed together in position; the join sits beneath the mattress and is not felt through it. The mattress itself is a single continuous unit.
Yes. Original, Classic and Luxe are all available at this dimension. The collections differ in spring count, filling composition and finish instead of in the sizes they can be built to. Per-collection specification to be confirmed, Vispring dealer schedule
Proportionally, yes. Density is fixed, so a larger footprint simply holds more pockets. At 69.4 square feet this is roughly 164 per cent of a King's count. Exact counts by collection to be confirmed, Vispring specification sheet
The working minimum is 13'4" x 11'4", roughly 151 square feet, allowing 30 inches of walk-around on both sides and at the foot plus headboard depth. We recommend 14'4" x 12'4" or larger.
